Seller: Top-Rated Seller ludlowengland (5,083) 100%, Location: Historic Ludlow England, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 233011195617 This "Lancaster" "Le Meritoire Patent" camera are in "as found" condition and have not been repaired or restored. Made by the renowned optician and camera makers J Lancaster and Sons of Birmingham, UK, it is made of mahogany with brass fittings and its' original lens. The camera has an ivorine name plaque with "Le Meritoire Patent" and the second plaque has " J. Lancaster & Son, Birmingham". The lettering is still clear and legible. The brass lens appears to be original, however, it does not appear to be named. The lens moves in and out when the wheel is turned, however it does get a stuck when fully extended, the glass would benefit from a clean, there is glass to the rear of the lens only. The red coloured canvas tapered bellows are free from any splits or holes, however, there has been some discolouration. The ground glass plate has no cracks or chips that I can see and it measures approximately, 4 3/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches, which I believe is 1/4 plate size. The wooden body has gained a lovely depth of colour and patina over the years, there is a repaired split to the bottom of the folding bed, which has been repaired at some point, as well as the usual scuffs and scratches that you would associate with an item of this age. There is missing brass nut a bolt to one of the side struts and the back appears to have been replaced The camera extends well and folds away as it should, I have tried to show this in the photographs.
